Saturday 06/04 was the day I finally went home for a few days and I really longed to see my family and some friends. Of course, there were some problems with the train... (almost one hour of delay when we changed trains in Paris). So I arrived home at almost 23h00 and of course the first thing I wanted to eat: Chinese food from the Chinese in my street! So we ate Chinese food, talked a bit and then went to bed (I really wanted to sleep after a long day of travelling).
Next day: MY BIRTHDAY! Like usually, I like to have a calm birthday: have a large breakfast, talk a bit, prepare the drinks and food for the evening, and wait for all my family to arrive. I was very happy to see everyone back and tell them about my time in Montpellier. The following days were used to explore my own city again. Of course I had to eat real BELGIAN fries (it's really not the same here in France, they don't even know what a 'frituur' is...). I did some shopping for thing I can only buy in Belgium, made some walks around town, met my friends Lore and Teddy and just relaxed at home. Everything was nice, only one thing: the weather. I'm really used to the weather in Montpellier and compared to that, the weather in Belgium was kind of depressing...
And on Friday it was time to go back to Montpellier, but I still had some vacation left and we had to get of at Paris to change trains anyway. So the plan was to stop in Paris for two days and go to Montpellier on Sunday.
So my next stop was Paris. The most romantical city in the world according to most, but I have a different opinion. I think Paris is a bit overrated, it's expensive and most people aren't really friendly. But I wanted to go anyway cause I remebered there were some nice places (I went there once when I was 15 years old) and I had the perfect guide to show me Paris! Like I expected: I saw a lot of lovely places and buildings, but I also passed a lot of annoying and rude people haha.
Besides the walking and sightseeing, we ate some sushi at a Japanese restaurant, went to a bar to have a drink and play some pool, ate one of the best crêpes in my life and we sat on the metro for a proper amount of time. Just the typical stuff you do on a citytrip.
Going on a city trip is always nice but it also askes a lot of energy. We walked at least 34km in those two days (and not counted the time we sat on the metro), so I was a bit exhausted. But it was worth it, I really enjoyed my time there.
(And a few days after we came back, I realized I was lucky. I saw the Notre Dame just before the fire destroyed a big part of it. At least I have some nice pictures of it...)
After my week home and the weekend in Paris, I had some days of vacation left in Montpellier. This was mainly used to do some stuff here and celebrate Guillaume his birthday. I went to explore the city a bit more (I went to 'La promenade du Peyrou' and 'Jardin des plantes'), had a nice dinner and game night on Guillaume's birthday with our other roommate Delphine (if you want to play a nice game: EXPLODING KITTENS!), on saturdaynight we had a barbecue... But of course, old habits don't die and watching a serie all day is always fun (even when you're abroad in a wonderfull city). My favorite serie at the moment: Game of Thrones. I only saw the first season a long time ago, so I had a lot of episodes to watch before season 8 started. But I did well, I've started looking a little over a month ago and I'm halfway season 6 :p.
So next week is a new week of my internship, I already did eight weeks so I'm halfway there actually... Time really goes fast when you have fun! My project is going really good, our protocol is finished and we detect a lot of peaks (at least 30!). This means I could begin to experiment with patient samples and I hope I can finally start with my real patient samples next week! I already got them before my vacation, but I couldn't start with testing because I didn't had enough time before I took some time off. But I'll cross my fingers for next week...
